## **Sleeping **

### **(Formal) camping**

In the villages you will always find something for you, ask for the "Chef de village" if necessary.

### **Ho(s)tels**

In many places there are hotels, which vary in quality.

### **Wild camping**

Wild camping is possible, not dangerous either, but you will get a lot of attention in the vicinity of the villages. Make sure you have a well-ventilated tent as the ground is heated by the sun during the day and can make your tent uncomfortably hot at night.

## **Safety **

Burkina Faso is a poor but relatively safe country.

### **Criminality**

Like almost everywhere, it is important to look after your belongings in the cities. Especially in the capital Ougadougou and especially when the biennial film festival 'Fespaco' is organized (end of February and beginning of March of the odd years). In addition to many tourists, this also attracts a lot of scum to the city.

## **Food and drink **

**Food**

- There are plenty of places to eat, the quality of which varies widely. Dinner is often prepared and stored in large bowls in the afternoon. Cold limp fries are normal and no one complains about them. Make sure you have sufficient food supplies on the way.
- Petrol is available for cooking, they measure half a liter for you neatly. The quality is usually not good, it still contains lead.
- In Ouagadougou you can get everything, there is even a hypermodern supermarket that sells wholemeal bread, among other things!

**Drink**

- Along the way there are many pumps with good water, installed by means of development funds. Make sure you have sufficient water supplies along the way.
- Avoid pits as much as possible because of the risk of contamination. Bringing a water filter is highly recommended.
- In the cities and some villages, in addition to bottles, water is sold in plastic bags. Only the printed, sealed ones contain good quality water.
- Children with handcart and cool box sell frozen bisap, a kind of red lemonade made from hibiscus, nice for a change!

## **Vaccinations & health **

- Healthcare is at a low level. In case of major problems, it is better to move to neighboring Ghana.
- Malaria occurs all year round. Protective equipment DEET, prophylaxis and the like are available on site.
- Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory.
- Vaccinations against DTP and hepatitis A are recommended
- Sometimes a Cholera statement is needed.
