## **Safety **

Be careful in El Salvador, then you should be fine.

### **Criminality**

As always, use common sense.

Karin: "We have never felt unsafe for a moment. We have not been to the capital. In larger cities we take a hotel / hostel, in the countryside we look for the safety of a family or village at night to pitch the tent there. Wild camping may be possible, but it is advised to be in before dark."

## **Other **

**Best time to cycle**

The climate of Guatemala has a wet season (May-November) and a dry season (December-April). Although Guatemala is located in the tropical climate zone and has predominantly warm and sunny weather, the local weather conditions can deviate considerably, mainly due to the large differences in altitude. In Quetzaltenango (2200 meters altitude) night frost is not uncommon in the months of October - December, while a few dozen kilometers to the south the temperature rarely falls below 15 degrees Celsius. Because Guatemala is quite far west of the Caribbean, hurricanes hardly occur.
