People
The people are friendly and helpful. Friendly people, very helpful. There is a lot of cycling. They speak Danish. As a foreigner, you can usually use English: almost all people younger than 40 years speak excellent English. Older people often have better German.

(Formal) camping
Denmark has many luxury campsites. You will often find cooking areas with hobs, communal areas with play facilities, washing machines and sometimes a sauna. The campsites are well spread across the country. Official campsites in Denmark require a Camping Card International (or
a Scadinavian Campcard). But many campsites also accept your passport as proof of identity.
Bert (2007): "Campsites in Denmark are quite pricey, but there is a covered cooking area with gas stoves everywhere. Furthermore, the picnic tables are not missing. Also under a shelter for when it rains."
Wimbas: A three star campsite in 2014 with a covered cooking area and good facilities was about € 14 per night for cyclist with tent.
The Danish Cyclists' Union (see organizations) publishes an overview of camping addresses for farmers and landowners.
Ho(s)tels
Youth hostels are suitable for cyclists of all ages: they are luxurious but expensive. Reservations are recommended in high season. Hotels are only available in the larger towns.

Safety
Denmark is a safe country. Just be careful in big cities, as always.
Traffic
There are many good cycle paths, where you can cross the country without a car. On some roads there is a narrow strip next to the road, but then it is noticeable that the Danes drive much more slowly and really take cyclists into account. Avoid the E-roads, they are the busiest.
Criminality
At smaller campsites you can safely leave your bags on the bike.

Transport
Train
Trains run to Copenhagen via Hamburg where the bicycle is allowed. Inquire at the Deutsches Bundesbahn and the Danish Tourist Office. You can also take your bicycle on the train from Malmö (Sweden).
It is also possible to bring a bicycle on the local train. See the journey planner of the Danish railways: www.rejseplanen.dk. Check: "Cykelmedtagning er nødvendig". Bicycle places must be reserved in advance.
Bus
Many villages can be reached by bus. Some long distance buses also take bicycles if there is room.
Boat
All inhabited islands are connected by ferry services on which the bicycle can be taken. The Danish Tourist Board publishes information brochures about ferry services in Denmark.

Food and drink
Denmark is quite expensive. Meat and alcoholic drinks are often the most expensive groceries. You will find many stalls along the road with produce from your own land, here you can often put together a good meal that is cheaper than the supermarket.
A grocery store cannot be found everywhere in small villages. Many gas stations also sell food.

Seasons (dry / wet)
It is sometimes said that it is special when it is not raining. That is perhaps a bit exaggerated: we have heard stories of cyclists who had beautiful weather. In any case, rain falls more than average elsewhere in europe. The best cycling period is may, june and early july. After that, the chance of rain is greater.
Governing wind directions
Pay attention to which direction you are cycling. In connection with the sometimes strong wind it can be nice to determine your direction of travel. The wind often comes from the (north) west.
