People
The population is generally very hospitable, but certainly not intrusive. In the problem areas, the atmosphere will probably be different.

Sleeping
Staying with locals
There are many 'community-based projects' in Uganda, with or without the involvement of Western organizations. Think of schools, hospitals and orphanages, regularly supplemented with a cottage where tourists can spend the night.
(Formal) camping
Camping is almost exclusively done in the game parks.
Ho(s)tels
In the large towns and wildlife parks, accommodations are geared towards Western tourists. In small towns and villages (certainly on the asphalt roads, but also along the 'dirt roads') there are small guesthouses/hotels, which are mainly used by the Ugandan population themselves. You will not find these addresses in the travel guides. A hot meal (local food) can often be arranged for you. The bicycle can usually be parked in the room or elsewhere inside.

Safety
Note from Cycle Planet: The below information might be outdated. Please confirm, adjust or delete the information when you have more recent information.
Rebel movements are active in the north of the country. They carry out attacks on the civilian population. There is an ethnic conflict in the northeast of the Karamoja and in the Katakwi district.
The border area with Congo, the mountainous west, is currently secured by the government army, including the Ruwenzori Mountains and the Bwindi National Park. An exception is the district of Nebbi.
The wildlife population has increased significantly in recent years. Especially near the NPs you can encounter wild animals (elephants, buffalo etc.).
The tsetse fly occurs in a number of areas; looking out!

Food and drink
The food is not particularly interesting. Lots of Matoke (cooked bananas) which are particularly heavy on the stomach. It is nutritious and you can cycle well on it. For a few euros you are full.
If you cook yourself, get a petrol burner, not the cheapest to buy, but you will enjoy it for years. Camping gas burners and related products are of no use in Uganda.
Bottled drinking water is available everywhere.

Other
Best time to cycle
June, just after the rainy season. The humidity then still hangs in the wooded area. The temperature is manageable (about 26 degrees). In the higher areas (mountains) it is usually cooler.
The temperature is quite stable throughout the year - according to the graphs it is about 25 degrees on average every month. In Uganda, the temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees, and rarely goes above 30/35.
Spare parts
In Uganda there is quite a lot of cycling, especially on decent, classic-looking bicycles (28 inches) of Chinese manufacture (for transporting jobs, pineapples, crates, firewood, etc.). There is therefore a bicycle repair shop in every village, who often has a stock of tires, spokes, rims, etc. In Kampala, some mountain bike-style bicycles (26 inch) are also sold; You may also be able to find some parts there. Assume that western bicycle parts cannot be found.
There is also no knowledge about western bicycles. Keep in mind that if you are unable to repair and want to cycle through Uganda, you may face problems. Follow a bicycle repair course in advance with the Wereldfietser or Vakantiefetser, which is also fun.
