Welcome to Cycle Planet!
Learn all you need to know about our platform, the Swiss army knife of the bicycle touring world. There is an interactive map with all sorts of interesting points (visas, border crossings, activities, other cyclers, and much more), detailed information about each of these places, a database of countries with even more information such as general info, safety, inspirational blogs and videos and more.
This platform can even be used to find hosts for your next destinaion, for free!
Map
There is an interactive map of the world, with markers of users and points of interests. Users either are available for hosting (red marker), not available for hosting (grey marker), or touring (yellow marker).
There is a list of points of interests markers, such as wildcamping, formal camping, campsite, ho(s)tels, bike shops, see and do, visas, border crossings, shop, water points, ATM's, warnings and other. Each registered user can add new markers to the map, edit existing ones, or comment and share their latest experience.
Country information
In total there is a database of 213 countries available on this platform, each containing it's own unique information regarding bicycle touring. The list of countries can be found in the countries tab (with the earth icon).
You can like a country by pressing the heart button, causing it to appear in your favorites list so you can access it quickly. By pressing one of the country buttons, you'll land on the country page. As of 2021, you may notice a lot of empty pages, as we launched only recently. However, every registered user can add or edit information by pressing the pen button or the plus button.
Check out the page of Honduras, which is filled in almost completely by our volunteer Tulio. Just like him, you can become a contact person for a country, apply now on our team page.
Hosting
This platform can even be used to find hosts for your next destinaion, for free! In the map you can see all users who are available for hosting, having a red marker. You can click on their marker to be redirected to their profile.
From here, you can send them a message. You can either send a normal message, or send an official host request (press the 3 dots in the top-right corner). By sending an official host request, the other user will get an email, and we can also track how much hosts request someone accepts or declines, causing the platform to work even better.
Profile
Every user has a profile, in which personal information can be shared. It's the place to share your own social channels, and let others know which awesome trips you've made so far.
More
And there is more. For people who just discovered the awesome world of bicycle touring, there is an inspiration page with some of the greatest bicycle trips we've seen (take Ed Pratt for example, who cycled around the world on a unicycle!).
There is also a page with usefull apps and groups, like WhatsApp groups in which you can ask fellow travelers very detailed questions about a specific region.
Last but not least, there is a gear page, having some of the best equipment that can be used on bicycle touring. This page currently doesn't had the attention that it need, but we'll add more stuff in the near future.
