About
Czech Republic is a pleasant country to cycle at. The population density is quite low, the nature is beautiful, the roads are in good condition and the people are very friendly. Regularly you will spot wild deers. There are a lot of beautiful castels around, which you regularly pass by by accident.

People
The local population is generally friendly. In the cities, knowledge of English and German is not a problem, in the smaller villages it is more difficult to find someone who speaks some English or German. The alphabet is the same as with us, place names on the map are easy to read.

(Formal) camping
There are many campsites in the Czech Republic, in the tourist areas they are a lot busier than elsewhere.
Ho(s)tels
There are are quite some youth hostels available in most cities. Guesthouses can be found everywhere, you can recognize them under the name 'sobe' and they are certainly not expensive. Hotels and guesthouses can be found in both small and large towns for a very reasonable price. In areas where a lot of winter sports are practiced, you can often leave your bike in the ski storage room. You will then receive a separate key for that.
Wild camping
Not allowed, but if you had to ask if you can stand on a farmer's land, we don't think this would cause a problem.
Bas (2020): "Once I was doing wild camping on a large grassfield from a farmer, and in the morning he spotted me and became quite angry. Having asked beforehand would probably have solved the issue. Other days I camped wild in the nature without problems from locals. Just make sure to clean up after yourself."

Food and drink
Cooking fuel
Hard to find.
Markets and supermarkets
Food can be bought in many places, even on top of hills. Sometimes shops are closed at noon (from 12:00 to 1:00 pm). Smaller local shops are often open early in the morning, also on saturdays and sundays, but may close as early as 11:00 or 12:00. The larger supermarkets are usually open every day of the week from 7 am to 7 am.
Stalls on the street
There are stalls where you can buy something warm.
Restaurants
There is a lot of choice in the cities. In Prague: quite expensive. Between the cities: here and there are small restaurants that offer a dish of the day.
Drinkable water
No problem. Water is widely available. The water in hotels is good, but there is an aftertaste. There is also plenty of mineral water for sale.

Best period to cycle
The weather varies greatly, from very nice weather to downright bad weather. Summers are the best time of year for cycling in the Czech Republic. From November it starts to get noticeably colder and in January and February a lot of snow can easily fall. Road cleaning is only done on the main roads.
Spare parts
There are some, but they are hard to find. Almost all cities and towns have a bicycle shop. Nowadays modern parts (Shimano) are also sold there. The Czech industry is also moving forward and sells compatible parts of comparable quality. The prices of these are a lot lower. The bike shops are often run by avid cyclists, who will certainly help you with repairs. You can often use their tools.
