About
A small, but long country. Pass through it in one day, or explore the inner depths more inland. The country offers an interesting history of their Voodoo religion. The people are very friendly, but also very poor. You can expect some begging.

Sleeping
Staying with locals
You can stay with locals quite easily, they are always helpful and sometimes even give their own bed to you. Saying that you can sleep in your own tent is not a problem.
(Formal) camping
A great way of meeting locals and sleeping in your own comfortable bed. Ask anyone in a village and they will search a spot for you.
Ho(s)tels
There are hotels in many places. These are very variable in quality. In many cases, the bicycle can be taken with you in the room or stored separately. The first option is always preferable. The price of an overnight stay depends on your requirements and varies. Staying overnight in hostels: quality differs: with / without electricity, running water, water at all, proper toilet, shower, etc.
Wild camping
Possible, but there are lots of people everywhere, so consider asking permission first.

Food and drink
Togolese cuisine is one of the best in West Africa and restaurants are very cheap. On the road you'll find a lot of small bars where they serve bread with egg or delicious spaghetti. The local food is Fufu and Akume. Palm wine is the local drink, which has a very strong taste.
It is recommended to bring a water filter.

Best time to cycle
The rainy season lasts from May to October with a break in the south from mid-July to mid-September. The hottest period is from mid-February to mid-April. The dry season is the best for cycling, when the roads are at their best. The only disadvantage is that the harmatan (desert wind) often creates a lot of dust in the air.
Spare parts
Parts for modern western bicycles, with the exception of tires, are virtually impossible to obtain.
