The border crossing from Chile, via Lago Villa O "Higgins, is notorious and famous among cyclists. In the summer season there is a ferry once or twice a week. If you can hire a horse to carry your luggage on the stretch you want to follow on foot. The hiking and / or mountain bike route is about 20 km long and goes straight through the wooded areas. The ferry departs in the afternoon, which means that you must complete the trip within 5 to 6 hours. From Argentina you can also venture the crossing at Lago de Desierto. Those who cannot make it can go to one of the shelters (refugio) of the argentine or chilean army resp. north side of Lago del Desierto in Argentina or Candelario Mansilla in Chile just after the crossing from Villa O'Higgins.
